March 6, 2012: Andre Marc of AVRev.com just reviewed the Unico CD Primo, and it’s a rave review! He said: “There are a number of very good players at the $2500 price point. While I have not heard all of them — nobody has — I have heard quite a few. The CDPrimo would be my top choice if I was shopping for a CD player in this range.” Thanks, Andre! You can read the review and an interview with CCI at http://www.avrev.com/home-theater-audio-sources/cd-players/unison-research-cdprimo-cd-player-review.html.

February 19, 2012: We just heard from Michael Mercer, who is currently reviewing the Simply Phono for Positive Feedback Online. His comment: “Phonostage is KILLER, expect a VERY positive scroll …” We think that for $2450 (with the optional outboard power supply), there’s no phono stage we’d rather use in our reference system!
January 29, 2012: Colleen and Marc are happy to announce their next dealer event at the Audio Doctor in Jersey City, New Jersey! December 29, 2011: We have just set the US prices for the new Quinta and Seconda floorstanding loudspeakers from Opera. The Quinta will be $5495 per pair and the Seconda will be $3995 per pair. These sleek beauties will be available in cherry, mahogany, piano black and white.
December 29, 2011: We’re finally getting a chance to evaluate the new Unico 50 integrated, a 120 wpc hybrid powerhouse, before we bring it to CES. (Here it is with the matching Unico CDE CD player behind it.) It is powerful, especially in the bass, but we were struck by the extended, effortless treble. This is a true dual mono design (all connections are separated by left and right channel on the back panel, mirror-image) with tons of features including balanced inputs, 4 and 8 ohm speaker taps and more. This amp does it all for just $4495!
December 28, 2011: The Simply Italy is currently making its US debut–in our listening room! This little 12wpc amp offers a huge chunk of the performance of its big brother, the $4895 S6 for roughly half the price. Right now it’s a stellar match with Trenner & Friedl ARTs, even though the ARTs are only 85 dB efficient (albeit with an 8 ohm impedance). This little gem is amazing, even right out of the box. We can’t wait for it to break in some more! Just $2450.
December 22, 2011: Congratulations to Dave Lalin of Audio Doctor, our New Jersey dealer, for getting a great write-up in Stereophile from Stephen Mejias: http://www.stereophile.com/content/audio-doctor-searching-best-everything. Here’s what Stephen had to say about our Unison Unico Primo integrated and Primo CD player: “Now Lalin switches to the new Unison Research Unico Primo integrated amplifier ($2295) and CDE CD player ($3895). This combination presents a large leap up in drama, scale, richness of color, and overall physicality. Everything has grown in size; it sounds like we’re listening to bigger speakers. I’m at once impressed by the Unison Research gear and annoyed by my Exposure components; I find myself wondering how I might afford the Unico.” Way to go, Dave!
December 21, 2011: CCI is proud to announce that our Unison Research Giro turntable with UN1 cartridge will be featured in the Joseph Audio Room at the 2012 CES. If you’ve ever heard Jeff Joseph’s amazing loudspeakers such as the Pearl, the Perspective and the Pulsar, you’ll know how excited we are that he asked to use our turntable! You’ll be able to see and hear the Giro at Suite 29-140.
December 21, 2011: It’s time to get ready for the 2012 CES in Las Vegas! We will be demonstrating two separate systems in room 29-117 at The Venetian. The featured products will be the Unico 50, S6 and Simply Italy integrated amplifiers; the Unico CD Primo and Unico CDE CD players and the Opera Quinta and Seconda loudspeakers. This will be the US debut of the Unico 50, Simply Italy and both speakers! All cabling, power cords and line conditioning will be supplied by our partners at Audience. CES 2012 will take place January 10-13, 2012. See you there!
December 21, 2011: We have just set the US price on the new Simply Italy integrated amplifier from Unison Research. This beautiful all-tube amplfier offers 12 beautiful watts per channel and looks like a miniature version of the extraordinary S6 integrated amplfier. At 33 lbs., it’s a much heftier design than it looks. We will have it here at CCI later this week and we’ll test it in our reference system before it heads off for its debut at the 2012 CES. The price? Just $2450!
December 13, 2011: CCI is proud to announce that Whetstone Audio right here in Austin, Texas, has decided to become a Unison Research and Opera Loudspeaker dealer! For more information, check out the Audience website at http://www.audience-av.com/

November 30, 2011: Check out the Vinyl Anachronist blog for a report on our Hootenanny at Whetstone Audio on December 2! http://thevinylanachronist.blogspot.com/2011/12/whetstone-audio-hootenanny.html
November 29, 2011: Our dealer in New Jersey, Dave Lalin of Audio Doctor, hosted Stereophile writer and editor Stephen Mejias at his store for the first US audition of the Unison Research Unico 50! Dave reports that Stephen loved the sound of the 50, and Dave himself was truly excited by the rhythmic drive and wonderful sound this brand new amp provides. CCI will be getting one of these units in next week, and we’ll see if Dave is right!
November 26, 2011: AT WHETSTONE AUDIO HERE IN AUSTIN TX: “December 2nd, I will be hosting a night with Colleen Cardas Imports & Bob Clarke of Profundo. Two excellent distributors that have recently moved to Austin. They will be bringing some interesting hi-fi gear to listen to.” Read more at http://www.whetstoneaudio.com/
November 23, 2011: Our upcoming Hootenanny at Whetstone Audio on December 2 just got a little press coverage on the Stereophile website. As someone who has subscribed to the magazine since 1985, I find this very exciting–even more so than when they started publishing my letters to the editor back in 1990 or so!
As I write this, we’re gearing up for the event. It looks like we’ll have two separate systems on display at Whetstone. Bob Clarke will have a system showing off the new Trenner & Friedl Pharoahs (pictured above) backed up by a full system of Heed Audio components. For those of you who follow my blog, you’ll know how much I love Heed and how well they match up with Trenner & Friedl loudspeakers.
Colleen and I are still planning out our system. Although we intended on featuring the brand new Unico 50 integrated amplifier, the truth is that we’re selling almost every unit we can import. We also have one of the first Unico 50s in the US making the rounds with several reviewers. In other words, we may not have one available, but we will have the extraordinary S6 all-tubed integrated instead. This is one of my absolute favorites in the Unico line (I haven’t heard the 50 yet), and I think it’s really going to be a huge hit at the event.
We’re also going to try to bring my Unison Research Giro turntable to the event. It’s the only one currently in the US, and right now it’s being reviewed by TONEAudio, so I’m hoping to get it back in time.
The Hootenany will be held at Whetstone Audio here in Austin from 6 to 9pm on December 2. Whetstone is located at 2401 East 6th Street #1001, Austin, TX. The phone number is (512)477-8503. Please come out and meet with me, Colleen Cardas, Bob Clarke and
Brian Di Frank. If this event is a success, we’ll plan on future events at Whetstone on a regular basis.
November 17, 2011: Here’s a great write-up by dealer Dan Muzquiz on his addition of the Unison Research and Opera Loudspeaker brands to his already stellar lineup: http://www.blackbirdaudio.com/Blackbird_Audio_Gallery/News_and_notes/Entries/2011/11/11_New_Arrivals_at_Blackbird_Audio_Gallery.html
October 3, 2011: We would like to welcome both Fidelis AV and SoundWaves to the CCI fold this week! Both are now dealers for Unison Research and Opera Loudspeakers. Both dealers have carried these two brands in the past, and we’re happy to include them both as we re-introduce these stunning products to the US!
